Now....this campaign is not run by people tht think its hurting the environment....No no no no no....It's run by folks who think that by using these vehicles and other gas-guzzling cars....one would be supporting terrorists....WHAT ON EARTH!?!?!?!....See, this is what I was getting at in my last entry....This is complete nonsense....but SOMEONE actually screened these commercials before they were aired and said "Yes...Let's show it"....COME ON!!!!....
One commerecial has been likened to those SlimFast commercials where they're like "I lost 40 lbs in 3months" then someone else says "I lost 10lbs in 3weeks"....Yeah, the Anti-SUV people (the Natural Resource Defense Council(NRDC)) have one that's like "I gassed 40,000 Kurds," "I helped hijack an airplane," "I helped blow up a night club"...Then all of them together say, "We did it all by driving to work in out SUVs"....RIDICULOUS!!!!!......
Then you have the other commercial which I saw for the first time today....It goes like this...."This is George"...Then we see a close-up of a gas pump..."This is the gas George buys for his car"...Next we see a guy in a suit..."This is the oil company executive who makes money on the gas George buys"...Close-up on Al Qaeda training film footage..."This is the terrorist organization supported by money from the country where the oil company does business"...Now let me know if thats not foolish....
So, many of you are proabably like...Well, I do see their point...And thats all good and dandy...But look at it like this....What about the toys, cellphones, and everyday tools that use plastic?...Need we forget that that oh so versatile substance is formed from petroleum?...Yes thats right, petroleum, the same stuff that basically powers the SUVs, warms many of our houses, and pretty much is involved in the production of a myriad of other products we use on a daily, no, HOURLY basis.....So then, are we not allegedly supporting terrorists when we buy Jane and John the new controller for their PS2 and the 50 games that go with it that are made on CDs?.....
The bottom line folks, is that just as energy is transfered from one form to another, so is money....Remember that thing where people would write their name and number on a dollar bill to find out how far from its origin it has gotten after they spend it?...Yeah, thats what's happening here, the money's just moving...We all are supporting someone's drug habit, we all are financing a serial killer's ammo supply...but at the same time, we all are also supporting a church, and we all are funding a homeless shelter....So please, before any of you think about siding with campaigns such as these and the many that are to come, make sure that it makes sense first, make sure that its not some narrow minded, narrow VISIONED statement that is nothing more than an opportunistic ploy to pull at your thoughts, emotions, and even your leg, in order to get completely different objective achieved....
